What we cover
Work follows the sections of the test. Listening and Speaking are shared by both versions; Reading and Writing Task 1 change with the version you sit.
The parts move from an everyday conversation to a talk on an academic subject, each heard once. Marks slip on spelling, plurals, word limits and speakers who correct a detail.

At least 250 words on a view, argument or problem, worth twice as much as Task 1. Essays stall when the position stays vague or ideas are listed with no explanation behind them.

How lessons run
Preparation starts from evidence: where marks are lost today, which band you need, and how many weeks remain before your test date.
The first lesson samples each skill: a timed Listening part, one Reading section, a Writing task and a short interview. Your tutor marks Writing and Speaking against the public criteria and shows where each band sits.
The overall band is the average of four scores, so lifting the lowest one often moves the result furthest. The plan sets a target band per skill and the order of the work.
Each lesson teaches one technique, such as writing an overview or telling False from Not given, then tests it at exam pace. Writing done between lessons comes back with comments on all four criteria.
Closer to the test, full sections are sat on screen at real timing, with handwritten Writing if you plan to choose Writing on Paper. Scores are set against your target to steer the final weeks.
Speaking mocks and lessons happen live on video: choose Zoom, Microsoft Teams or Google Meet, whichever your laptop already runs. Qatar never changes its clocks, so a slot after work, or on a Friday or Saturday, holds steady. Ramadan times follow the hours announced each year.
Quick questions about a practice essay can go by WhatsApp message between lessons; its calls drop too often in Qatar to carry a lesson.
The exam
IELTS has four sections. Listening, Reading and Writing are taken one after another, and Speaking is a face-to-face interview. From mid-2026 every IELTS test is delivered on computer.

Each section gets a band from 0 to 9, in whole or half bands. The overall band is their average, rounded to the nearest half band: 6.25 becomes 6.5, and 6.75 becomes 7.
