Does every American school follow Common Core?

Many American schools use the Common Core State Standards for mathematics, and others use their own or related standards. The tutor starts from the learner's actual course materials and pacing guide, so lessons match what the class is doing, whatever standard sits behind it.

AP Calculus AB or BC?

BC covers everything in AB and adds further topics, including series and parametric and polar functions. Learners with a strong algebra and precalculus base often choose BC; AB suits those who want more time on the core ideas. What is the digital SAT like?

The SAT is taken on a device, in two sections: Reading and Writing, and Math. Each section has two modules, and the second adapts to performance on the first. Each section is scored 200 to 800, for a total of 400 to 1600, and a calculator is allowed throughout the Math section.

When should SAT preparation start?

A few months of steady practice before the chosen test date works well for most students, with a diagnostic first to show where points are available. Starting earlier leaves room for a second attempt if the student wants one. The tutor plans backwards from the date you pick.

How do the lessons take place?

How it is structured

Grades, semesters, AP and the SAT

The American system runs from kindergarten through Grade 12, with high school from Grade 9. Standards vary by school, and many follow the Common Core State Standards for mathematics and English language arts. Coursework is graded across semesters into a GPA. At the top sit Advanced Placement courses, with College Board exams each May, and the SAT, which many universities use in admission.
